The Managing Director of HESPI, Dr. Ali Issa participated on the 2nd Somali Regional Studies Conference, which was held on Dec. 12-13, 2022 in Jigjiga, Ethiopia. The theme for this year's conference was on “Building Resilient Communities and Sustainable Institutions in the Somali Region while unpacking Ethiopia’s Social Contract”. The conference provided a platform for much needed reflection and discussion on creating viable inter- and intra-community relationships, fostering closer connections and improved society and state relations, as well as fostering resiliency in the livelihoods of communities across the region and beyond.

The Horn Economic and Social Policy Institute (HESPI) in collaboration with the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) from Nairobi, Kenya organized a project inception workshop on May 10, 2023 in Addis Ababa on quantifying government investment in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) prevention and elimination programs across all sectors and expenditure tracking from all sources at Federal level and in two regional states- Amhara and Oromia.

HESPI senior management team attended SALCA learning workshop held in ACCRA, GHANA on March 21-24, 2023. The workshop was organized by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) under the SALCA: “Strengthening African Leadership Capacity for Climate Adaptation: An Imperative for Adapting to Climate Impact” program and was aimed at providing a platform for learning and sharing of knowledge among the beneficiary institutions of the SALCA program.

SALCA LEARNING WORKSHOP HELD IN ACCRA, GHANA

HESPI held a Board of Directors virtual platform meeting on the 10th of December 2022. The Chairperson opened the meeting with a welcoming remark and brief statement on the impact of the economic turbulence and insecurity in the sub region on the Institute's operations. The management of HESPI then presented reports on the Institute current year's work programs and budget, and the estimates for 2023. The Board members discussed in detail the means of further expanding the core activities and networks; and also appreciated the efforts the institute is making to be a Centre of Excellence.
