The African Union Commission and the Horn Economic & Social Policy Institute signed MoU on July 24, 2020 at the Headquarters of the AUC. The ceremony was presided by H.E. Ambassador Thomas Kwesi Quartey, Deputy Chairperson AUC and Ambassador Peter G.Robleh, Chairperson HESPI Board of Directors in the presence of Dr. Ali Issa, Managing Director of the HESPI. The signing of this MoU is anticipated to create and facilitate increased partnership, cooperation in areas of common interest and endeavors. To this end the AUC and HESPI have identified the following areas of cooperation which is also set out in article 3 of the Memorandum.

 Areas of Cooperation: 

The Parties have agreed to collaborate in the following areas:

  • To encourage collaborative research projects carried out for the benefit of the AU membership;
  • To promote institutional capacity for sound economic and social policies implementation at the continental, regional and country levels;
  • To promote and facilitate regional and continental economic integration to foster high, sustainable, and inclusive growth and poverty reduction;
  • To promote sustainable development at the economic and social levels as well as the transformation of African economies;
  • To promote other activities that would assist on attaining the mutual objectives of the Parties.
  • The Parties further agree to cooperate in any other areas of mutual concern as may be necessary to achieve the objectives of this MoU.

This MoU is intended to remain in force for an initial period of three years unless terminated in accordance with the provision of article mentioned in the MoU.
